Advancing Genomic Innovation Through Hong Kong–Shenzhen Exchange

09 Jul 2026

HKGI was pleased to welcome a delegation from Shenzhen in July—led by Ms Yin Lirong , Director of Science and Technology, Innovation and Education Development Division, Public Hygiene and Health Commission of Shenzhen Municipality alongside representatives from the SMART National Biobank of China—for an exchange on genomic medicine, biobank management, and healthcare innovation.

Drawing on the experience and achievements of the Hong Kong Genome Project (HKGP), HKGI shared insights into the development and operation of Hong Kong’s genomic medicine ecosystem, covering biobank governance, genomic data management, and the responsible application of artificial intelligence in genomic analysis. The discussions also explored the importance of robust data governance in supporting the sustainable development of genomic medicine.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to showcase Hong Kong’s experience and strengths in genomic medicine and to foster closer collaboration within the Greater Bay Area. Such exchanges help foster mutual learning and support the advancement of genomic research and innovation, with the aim of delivering benefits to patients and communities across the region. HKGI looks forward to continued engagement with partners across the Greater Bay Area to promote collaboration and contribute to the development of genomic medicine.
