System Engineer (Infrastructure)

The System Engineer (Infrastructure) is responsible for the design, administration, and continuous optimisation of HKGI’s core server, network, and storage environments. A key initial focus of this role is supporting the upcoming data centre relocation project to ensure operational reliability and minimal service disruption. Apart from the data centre project, the incumbent will also drive infrastructure modernisation, security enhancement, and automation.
Report to Manager (Infrastructure), the incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer and optimise Unix/Linux servers (Red Hat, Ubuntu), virtualisation platforms and network infrastructure (switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs)
- Support the technical execution of the data centre relocation project, including architecture planning, migration strategy and system stabilisation
- Maintain high system availability and performance through proactive monitoring, patching, and capacity planning
- Execute system cut-over and migration activities with a focus on minimising downtime, conducting rigorous testing and post-implementation reviews
- Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and manage external vendors to monitor project timelines, mitigate risks and dependencies
- Produce and update technical documentation, including migration runbooks, system diagrams, risk assessments, rollback plans, and standard operating procedures
- Ensure infrastructure designs and operations comply with IT security best practices and mission-critical requirements
- Drive infrastructure automation and efficiency using scripting (e.g., Bash, Python) or configuration management tools
- Provide on-site and non-office hours support as required during migrations stage and regular or emergency maintenance
- Perform any other duties assigned by senior officers
Requirements:
We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of System Engineer (Infrastructure) who possesses:
- A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience in enterprise infrastructure administration (Server & Network)
- Proven experience in infrastructure migration or large-scale system upgrade projects (e.g., OS migration, hardware refresh, or cloud migration)
- In-depth expertise in Unix/Linux server design (Red Hat/Ubuntu) and virtualisation technologies
- Solid experience in enterprise network deployment and security (Cisco, Fortinet, or similar industry-leading brands)
- Strong understanding of data centre architecture, including power/cooling requirements, rack layout, and structured cabling
- Demonstrated ability in project coordination, vendor management, and stakeholder communication
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and documentation skills
- Good command of spoken and written English and Chinese
- Proactive, well-organised, and able to work independently in a project-driven environment
Preferred Attributes:
- Direct experience in multi-phase or large-scale physical data centre relocation projects
- Professional certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, RHCSA/RHCE, Fortinet NSE, or F5 Certified
- Experience working in mission-critical or regulated environments
- Familiarity with security infrastructure and best practices
- Hands-on experience in virtualisation and data protection solutions to ensure business continuity during transitions
- Flexibility to support scheduled cut-over activities during non-office hours as necessitated by project timelines

Remuneration:
Successful candidate will be offered attractive remuneration and be appointed on an initial two-year contract (subject to mutual agreement for contract renewal).
